Your puppy comes with...

Our puppies, if we believe are ready, are able go to their new homes from 8-9 weeks old. They will come with the following:

Vaccination Information

Your puppy will receive its first C3 (Parvovirus) vaccination at 6-8 weeks of age, usually 8 weeks old here at Country Canine Co. The next C3 vaccination is required 2-4 weeks after the first vaccination, usually at 10-12 weeks of age (or ask your vet what their preferred schedule is). Our vets put 12 weeks for the next vaccination, and this can be the last vaccination they need if it is done after 12 weeks old. It is very important that you do not take your puppy into public places until 2 weeks after the second vaccination. Your puppy is at risk of deadly diseases and not fully covered until the booster shot is administered. It is under strict advice that during this period, you keep your puppy in your backyard and away from other dogs whose vaccination history you don’t know. It is ok to have your puppy around family and friends dogs if they are up to date with vaccinations, usually in familiar homes (e.g. no puppy parks, walks down the street, taken to shopping centres etc.). Also talk to your vet about heartworm prevention, and you can introduce the kennel cough vaccine at 12 weeks old also.

Microchip Information

We register your puppy’s microchip into the NSW Pet Registry database, and we will than submit the ‘Change of Ownership’ form to our local council with your details. Please note this may take a few weeks to be processed if done this way. Once processed, you will hopefully receive a letter from NSW Pet registry to say the puppy has been transferred in to your name, and you have 6 months from that date to register your puppy with your local council (within NSW). This gives enough time to get your puppy desexed, which means the registration fee is much lower (Approx $60 for a desexed dog, above $200 for non-desexed dogs). Interstate buyers may need to get their vets to register their puppy on the CAR (Central Animal Records) or AAR (Australasian Animal Registry) databases, your vets can point you in the right direction what to do here. Please note, I can not do interstate registrations for you. We can also do the transfer to you using the NSW pet registry (if you are within NSW), and it requires you to register, 'link' your pet buy filling in the microchip details with your phone number, and than the puppy will appear in 'your animals' section of the database online.

Worming

Your puppy will come wormed with Puppy Drontal liquid at 2 & 4 weeks of age, than at 6 & 8 weeks of age with an all wormer tablet (if you have gotten your puppy at an older age, we continue the worming regime every 2 weeks i.e at 10, 12 weeks). You need to continue worming at 10 weeks and 12 weeks. Worming your puppy is essential to the well being of your dog and can result in a longer life expectancy. When your dog is 3 months (12 weeks) of age, worming is required once every three months, or this can be done monthly if incorporated into the tick/flea treatments that are given monthly; make sure the brand you use covers ALL worms, some don't cover tapeworm, so check for this. Your puppy has been flea/heartworm treated using Neovet at 8 weeks of age. The common treatments that cover things such as fleas, lice, mites, and ticks include Advocate, Revolution (doesn't cover worms), Nexguard. Simaparica TRIO is a good one because it covers everything.

Vet Health Checked

Your puppy comes fully vet checked. Our wonderful and very experienced vet examines your puppy’s structure, bones, eyes, heart, teeth, ears, and skin. We do not allow puppies that have not passed their health check to leave us. Our wonderful vets at 'Western Rivers Veterinary Group' perform all vet health checks and administer vaccinations to the puppies

30 Days Free Pet Insurance

Your puppy comes with 30 days free pet insurance with Knose Pet Insurance. The policy has a 1 day waiting period for injury/accident, and a 0 day waiting period for illnesses. Knose will approach you once the 30 days has lapsed and invite you to continue. It is entirely up to you and your family if you want to continue with pet insurance for your puppy.

I do suggest that you continue with pet insurance, whether it be with Knose or another company for particularly the first couple of years of your dogs' life, especially while they are growing and learning and are prone to doing silly things such a running in front of cars, eating silly things, getting stuck in the wrong places, jumping on and off things they shouldn't etc. It can be expensive, but so can unexpected surgery and our health guarantee will only cover genetic/inherited defects (for 18 months), not things such as injuries/accidents or sicknesses picked up from other dogs or from eating bad things.

Puppy Pack

Your puppy comes with the following items:

  • Small bed
  • Pack of toys
  • Puppy bowl
  • Collar
  • 2kg bag of Advance puppy biscuits & a tin of 'Optimum Tin Puppy food' (refer to menu tab 'Diet Information' for more details on your puppy's current diet)
  • All relevant paperwork (vaccination certificate, microchip information, vet health certificate, and parents DNA results & hip scores if applicable)

(Please note: if your puppy is getting transported by plane, I am unable to send any physical items with them as part of airline freight policies. Therefore, the physical items in the puppy pack will not be included, and I will need to post all relevant paperwork).

Desexing Information

As this puppy is being sold as a pet, it is suggested that you get your puppy desexed. Desexing is recommended at 6 months of age for all animals not intended for breeding. Desexing helps prevent unwanted pregnancies and has many health and behavioural benefits. For females, desexing reduces the risk of mammory cancer, as well as uterine infection (pyometra). For males, desexing reduces aggression problems, urine marking and roaming as well as preventing prostate and testicular tumours. As part of the requirements of the AAPDB, we offer a $50 desexing voucher that is reimbursed upon evidence of desexing before your dog is 8 months old.

Shopping List for your puppy

  • A bag of the puppy biscuits the puppy is currently eating (Advance medium breed or large breed depending on the size/breed of your puppy, and optimum tin puppy food), or another premium kibble brand if you wish to change (please transition to another brand slowly)
  • Puppy pads or fake lawn pads depending on how you wish to train your puppy
  • Paper towel for accidents
  • A crate and/or puppy pen if crate training
  • Toys (especially hard rubber toys for chewing)
  • Pet ID tag
  • A tick/flea treatment (such as Advocate, Bravecto, Simparica or Revolution)
  • Puppy milk and a BBQ chicken (to have on hand for the first few days, for if puppy stresses and doesn't eat their biscuits the first couple of days)
  • A bed if puppy is getting flown by plane (or for a spare)
  • A collar & lead - please do not ask me what size harness to get for your puppy, it is best to wait until they have arrived and take them to a store for proper sizing. Each brand will have different sizing - a small in petbarn will be different to a small sold in kmart.
  • An Adaptil puppy collar or spray ($60-$80 and not essential), but they have great reviews on calming puppies. They release the 'Dog Appeasing Pheromone' that promote feelings of calm and well-being in your puppy.

The following photos show a good example of a 'crate' or 'playpen' setup, particularly the one on the right. However I would suggest lining the whole floor in the round pen part with puppy pads, as it isn't guaranteed your puppy will know to specifically go on the puppy pad. The photo to the right is also preferred as it has a larger area to allow your puppy to come out of their bed, go to the toilet in a separate area (while they are still in the toilet training process), and also where they can get a drink/eat away from their bedding.

Kmart offers the cheapest options for setting up your puppy pen area. Other places you can get crates/pay pens from include Big W, Petbarn, most other pet shops, and eBay. Here is a screenshot from Kmart with some of the items:

There are also benefits to adding a hot water bottle or a teddy with a heartbeat in your puppies crate, especially when they first come to your house. Kmart also sells a very reasonably priced teddy with a heartbeat.
